Our story
Shelter of Love for Kids was established in 2013 by individuals who once lived without parental care as street children in Machumba. One pivotal day, when one founder was about 13, they met a caring couple who provided shelter, nourishment, and love, transforming their life. Inspired by this kindness, they invited a friend from the streets to join them, and together, they grew with three younger siblings. With a piece of land generously offered by their grandmother, they founded the Shelter of Love for Kids orphanage, welcoming six additional children who had also lost their parents.
This transformative experience fueled their desire to share joy, leading to the creation of "Shelter of Love for Kids." Today, it serves as a refuge for children in the region who have lost their parents or need assistance, offering hope and a pathway to a brighter future.
Initially, the founders taught the first group essential subjects like math and English. Since 2015, two dedicated teachers have cared for the children during weekdays. The orphanage now operates as a preschool for children aged 3-6, where they embark on their educational journey in a nurturing atmosphere. Some children reside at the orphanage, while others live with relatives or have been welcomed into local families. The community's solidarity is truly heartwarming.
About Me
The founder traveled across Africa from 2018 to 2019, spending 9 months in Kenya. Early in their journey, they met the founders of the orphanage while working on another project and were moved by their unwavering dedication to the children.
Turning a blind eye to this situation has never been an option. They have experienced deep love here and witnessed significant suffering, which is why they chose to support Shelter of Love for Kids and seek others who share their passion for making a difference. They truly believe that:
